Text Box: I have the privilege of exploring the ancient world here at West Morris Mendham High School with one class of Level I Latin students, one class of Level II students and one class of combined Level III and Level IV students. The advanced class pursues the International Baccalaureate curriculum. All of my classes here at Mendham are in the morning sessions before lunch. I also teach a Level I and a Level II Latin class at West Morris Central in the afternoon.

This is my sixth year in the West Morris Regional High School District with most of my duties divided between the two schools.

I was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an AB in Latin and Greek.

During the Winter sports season, I serve as the coach for the West Morris Central Girls Varsity Basketball team .

My phone extension is: 908.543.2501 ext. 5193. The most effective way to reach me is by e-mail at: fgavin@wmmhs.org.
CLASS EXPECTATIONSText Box: I have two fundamental rules:
	1) respect me, each other and the school
	2) NO CELL PHONES!!

At the beginning of the year, each student received a hand out of class expectations. To view that document click here.

Lastly and most importantly, come to class imbued with curiosity and a spirit of adventure for expanding your intellectual horizons.
EXTRA HELPText Box: Because I finish the school day at West Morris Central, I am not available after school for additional help. However, I will be available during lunch in Room 128 on day “3” and day “1” On the other days, I must leave for West Morris Central immediately after the last morning session. In addition, students can make arrangements to meet on an ad hoc basis at other times. I also can be found in Room 128 by 7:15 AM on most days.
CULTUREText Box: Throughout the year, we shall study various subjects of Roman culture such as mythology, history, philosophy, art and architecture. There will be a project assigned in which each student will investigate a topic of Roman culture or classical study (e.g.: archeology) and present it to the class in power point format.
Text Box: For centuries, the study of Classics and in particular Latin was the fundamental building block to a liberal arts education. Today, the study of Latin and the Roman culture introduces the young, untrained mind to the foundations of our Western culture. The study of Latin and the Roman culture is an exercise in the expansion of the intellectual horizons of our 21st Century young Americans. It helps to form a cultured mind and intellectual curiosity. In a more practical sense, Latin fosters a deeper understanding of the English language, its vocabulary and grammar. This very often produces positive results on the SATs.
