MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Courses That I Teach:

ORCHESTRA (five credit course)

Orchestra is offered on the academic level to grades 9-12, and on the advanced level to grades 10-12. The level will be selected by students and their parents prior to the midpoint of the first marking period. Credit on the advanced level will be awarded for the completion of additional advanced level proficiencies during each marking period.

AP MUSIC THEORY (five credit course)

Advanced Placement Music Theory is a second year option which is available to students in grades 10-12 who have successfully completed Fundamentals of Music Theory (Advanced). In this course, the student is expected to continue a rigorous three-pronged approach to music: hearing it, performing it, and writing it.

INTRODUCTORY PIANO (2-1/2 credit course)

This music course is open to all students without previous music training or who have limited music training and would like to play a keyboard instrument. This course will enable students to develop playing ability, musicianship, and knowledge of music. Electronic keyboards will be provided for class instruction. Students will be taught fundamentals of note reading, rhythm reading, keyboard technique and basic principles of music theory.

PIANO APPLICATIONS (2-1/2 credit course)

This course is open to all students with previous piano playing experience who would like to expand their skills in piano. It enables students to further develop playing ability, musicianship, and knowledge of music and music software. Students are taught fundamentals of music technology and music theory. Music from various cultures and time periods will be studied.
