Those who read succeed!

Analytical Writing & Critical Reading is designed to prepare students for the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in Literacy, a state and federally mandated graduation requirement. The HSPA is administered to all juniors on the first week of March of their junior year. It is administered again on the first week of October of the senior year for those students still needing to pass the test.

Seniors assigned to this class must also participate in a Special Review Assessment (SRA). This process breaks down the HSPA test into smaller components, and is administered one piece at a time, enabling the student to prepare and pass one section at a time. The SRA process must be completed by March and submitted to the state.

Scores from the October administration of the HSPA arrive in the guidance office in January. If a senior has passed the October HSPA administration, the SRA process stops. If a senior has not passed, he/she may still graduate by successfully completing the SRA process.
