Grading Policy

All projects, assignments, quizzes and tests will be assigned points (the denominator). You will receive points based on your answers (the numerator).

· The grade you receive will be a fraction; for example, you could receive 5/6 if you got five correct out of six.

· If your answers went above what was required or you earned extra credit, it is possible to receive a higher numerator than the denominator. For example, on something you did an outstanding job on, you could receive 8/6.

Fractions will be added together. For example, these two assignments total 13/12.   Next, you divide the bottom number (denominator) into the top number (numerator). 13 divided by 12 equals 1.08. Move the decimal point two places to the right to make it a percentage (108%). 108 is an A+!

Extra credit opportunities will be offered to students wishing to demonstrate independence and creativity.

Homework will often be to read the chapter in the text. Short quizzes will be given on the reading.

You must LABEL and DATE all your work. Note-taking techniques will be taught. Many hand outs of primary sources will be examined. Keep these in your notebook in date order.

Many tests and quizzes will be open notebook.

Notebooks will be graded. COMPLETENESS and ORGANIZATION are the keys! Since most tests will require you to use your notebook, you’re in double trouble if you don’t have a complete and organized notebook. (No doodling!)

While there will be much group work, grading will be individually, not by group.

Spelling does matter! Use a dictionary, a spell checker, the glossary, your notes, or if not a test, ask somebody.

Sentence structure and paragraph structure will count in all activities in which you have time to reread and edit.
