Advanced Spanish II

In advanced Spanish II, the students are building vocabulary, learning direct and indirect object pronouns and working on the preterite and imperfect tenses.  Commands are learned by writing and performing commercials.  Communication skills are stressed and cultural awareness continues through the study of  various aspects of life in the Hispanic community.

A Brief Bio

I am Mrs. Barbara Dunnick and this is my 24th year teaching Spanish at Mendham High School. I am a graduate of Kutztown University with BS and MA degrees in Spanish. I am presently teaching  Advanced Spanish II, Advanced Spanish IV, Honors Spanish III and IB Spanish IV. When I am not teaching Spanish, planning lessons or grading papers, I like to  walk, lift weights, play the guitar, read and write poetry. I have been a member of a poetry circle for 9 years.

Homework

In order to be successful in acquiring a language, it is necessary to practice the new language every day. Therefore, it is advisable to spend time at home everyday reviewing the work that was done in class. If you are absent, you may contact me by email for the work covered.  I am available periods 1 and 4  and during lunch for extra help.  I am also available after school on Tuesdays.

Advanced Spanish IV

In Advanced Spanish III, the students are continuing to build vocabulary skills. They are learning the preterite tense, the present progressive, the imperfect subjunctive and familiar command forms. Cultural awareness continues through the study of various aspects of life in Spanish-speaking  countries.

Honors Spanish III

In Spanish III Honors, students use the text Galeria en Arte y Vida.  Having already  acquired basic vocabulary, grammatical structures and conversational skills, students will now be able to read, comprehend and discuss longer written passages as well as write well-developed compositions in Spanish.  Emphasis continues to be placed on vocabulary, conversation, grammar and cultural awareness.

IB Spanish IV

In IB Spanish IV, students use the textbook Tesoro Literario. Grammatical structures already learned are reviewed and refined. Students are introduced to Spanish literature. Works by Ruben Dario,Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Amado Nervo, Jose Marti, and Pablo Neruda are read and discussed. Students write compositions on a variety of topics. The IB component will prepare students to complete the oral requirements of the course which include: paired and individual oral presentations, compositions and, wherever possible, original source readings.
