This course is designed for students who want to know how to use the computer as a word processing tool. Instruction will focus on touch typing using efficient keyboarding techniques and the computer skills needed to prepare typical personal and business documents using word processing software.
Course Objectives:
The student will demonstrate skills in the following: : Touch typing : Keyboarding technique : Keyboarding speed and accuracy : Basic computer skills: Create, edit, save, retrieve, and print documents : Interpret proofreader’s marks and apply proofreading skills : Basics of Microsoft Word : Preparation of personal and business documents : Internet searching techniques and skills
Course Content:
: Introduction to Windows and Word : Learn the alphabetic keyboard using the touch typing method : Use timed writings as a tool for improving keyboarding skills and measurement : Apply proofreader’s marks and develop proofreading skills : Internet searching techniques : Format and prepare documents using Word Processing software: o Personal block and modified-block letters o Business block and modified-block letters o Standard and simplified memorandums o Unbound and leftbound reports including title page, body, references, and citations o Tables including titles and headings o Itinerary and agenda o Newsletters including journalistic column formats o Desktop publishing
